I could have talked to Lawrence University History Professor Jerald Podair for hours.  His latest book, City of Dreams, is the story of Brooklyn Dodgers owner Walter O’Malley and the journey he embarked upon in moving his team to Los Angeles.  Jerry Podair is a proud historian and takes his research and accuracy extremely seriously, but this book reads like a novel.  If all history books were as easy to enjoy as City of Dreams I wouldn’t have even tried to cheat in my freshman History of Western Civilization class.

Jerry’s book discusses the decision process, the way O’Malley operated his team and business, the political nature of sports and industry at the time, the cultural and economic impacts of the communities affected by the move, and all kinds of other factors that led to new privately-owned stadium in Chavez Ravine

Even if you aren’t a Dodger fan, have a listen to the podcast, and then go get a copy of City of Dreams.

After a stint as general manager of the Great Falls Explorers of the Continental Basketball Association, Ryan has found success as an author without the backing of a traditional publisher or literary agent. As he heard stories of other writers who felt they couldn’t get their stories told, Acra decided to open a boutique publishing house to help artists of all types share their work.
