Featuring Phillip Kirkland (Part 1)

Former star football player turned software engineer.

Where to Listen

On this week’s episode we have part one of our interview with Bethune-Cookman alum and Software Engineer Phillip Kirkland. On this episode he talks about growing up in a small city outside of Tallahassee Florida called Quincy. We discuss his early upbringing and how his love for academics started him down the path of wanting to be an engineer. Sports has been a part of his his life as far back as he could remember with his dad being a former athlete and a legendary coach in his community so it was just a matter of time before he got the bug. We went to discuss his high school experience starting at Shanks and moving over to East Gadsdens County before becoming one of the best players in the county. He details his recruitment and why he decided to accept an athletic scholarship to Bethune-Cookman University and what it was like spending his first two years playing behind future NFL-Pro Eric Weems. Finally he shared what it was like to play for legendary coach Alvin Wyatt  and how he played a big part in his success.
