Dr. Lindsay Usher, associate professor of Park, Recreation and Tourism Studies, talks to me about her latest article titled, “Virginia and North Carolina Surfers’ Perceptions of Beach Nourishment.” Her research examines differences in attitudes towards beach nourishment across three regions of Virginia and North Carolina. She also discusses her most recent study conducted over 6 months in 2020, interviewing surfers around the world to learn more about how they were coping with beach closures, lockdowns and surfing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Lindsay Usher is an associate professor of Park, Recreation and Tourism Studies at Old Dominion University. Her research interests include surf culture and tourism, as well as resilience and sustainability in the coastal tourism industry.
