In 1982 the Denver Nuggets were on the verge of being contracted by the NBA, pushed by then NBA lead counsel David Stern. They were on the edge of financial ruin and their consortium of owners couldn't afford to own the team, let alone pay the bills. On the edge of this financial collapse and near contraction along comes former Spurs owner Red McCombs.
